5 out of 5 stars Best of Both Worlds!!!   October 2, 2008

I was a little nervous about switching over to this new product due to several reviews that said that the smell of cat poo was the trade off for eliminating the smell of cat pee. I tried it anyway and I could not be more happy with the results. My two 6 year old cats now pee in the Tidy Cats Breeze and poo in their old litter box. There is seriously NO urine smell...even when I smell the very used pad close up. And the fact that my cats have decided not to poo in it...makes clean-up very easy. And the poo smell is still contained by the original litter box that I now only scoop out with no urine...perfect! Not sure if everyone's cats would do the same thing, but this is has made my life so much better!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!! Thanks Tidy Cats!!

4 out of 5 stars Breeze Litter Box....   October 1, 2008

Over all i like it more than a regular litter box... except poop sticks to the little pellets and you cant scoop out every one, there'd be none left in the box. also, even though the urine doesn't stink, it doesn't neutralize the poop smell which is much worse. On another note, i find my cat purposely getting pellets out of the box so he can play with them because he likes the sound it makes when he slaps them across the floor, so i still have to clean up litter daily! :(

4 out of 5 stars Makes cleaning up after kitty a breeze!   September 30, 2008

I love this litter box. It truly does make cleaning up after my two cats a breeze. My cats are both 5 years old, female, and live strictly indoors. I keep my litter box in a bathroom connected to the master bedroom. It was really annoying to always have to step in cat litter that was tracked from the bathroom into the bedroom, so I decided to give the Breeze a shot.

I followed the directions to set up the box, using a bag of the pellets and a pad in the sliding tray at the bottom. It was easy to put together, so that was a bonus. I placed the new box where the old box was, then put the old box next to it with a towel over the door. For a day or so, the cats continued to use the old box. Then one of the two cats discovered the Breeze and began using it. Once it was broken in, I found that both were using it and discarded the old box. The kit comes with instructions on how to get your cats to use the new system. My method of introduction was very similar to what they recommended.

As for performance now that they've been using it a few weeks, I have to say I do love it. Each evening when I get home from work, I scoop the poo out of the box, shake off the extra pellets, and flush the poo down the toilet. With two cats who like to drink a lot of water, I change the pad every 3 days. Usually on the second day, I'll rotate the tray so they fill up the other side of the pad. By the third day, it really needs to be discarded, and the smell when you open up the tray is quite overwhelming. I need to find something to sprinkle on the pad to make it not so pungent when you pull it out. My other semi-complaint is when the cats poo in the box, it does smell since it's not really covered up. It only matters if you are in the next room over when they go. Maybe invest in an automatic room deodorizer to help this.

All in all though, I'll take those two issues over stepping in litter that's been tracked all over the house, finding it in my couch cushions, on the counter and everywhere else! It is much cleaner and easier to dispose of the waste than the old box. It used to take me 5-10 minutes to clean up after the cats, but the Breeze system takes literally no more than one minute. Keep some wet wipes handy in case you need to freshen up the tray, sides or scoop. And enjoy a much cleaner house!

3 out of 5 stars Allow me to manage some expectations here...   September 29, 2008

I replaced my standard-issue litterbox with this product about six weeks ago. My cats, who are far from divas, took to it immediately. We had one "accident" the first week - but we had accidents with the original box, too, so not necessarily a correlation. In any event, I'm only giving this product three stars because while it works in terms of reducing urine odor, it allows the fecal odor to emanate far beyond what a typical litterbox would. And until I can train my cats to "go #1" in the Breeze box and #2 in a regular box, I'm going to have to pick which odor bothers me less. In addition, the pellets are more costly than standard litterbox filler and need to be replaced more often than the company would have you believe. I do like the fact that my cats make less of a mess with the pellets than they had for years with standard litter. It's nice to walk on my laundry room floor without hearing the crunch of tiny clay pieces underfoot...

5 out of 5 stars patience is the key.   September 27, 2008

i never review products, but this is definitely one worth reviewing.

my cat is 6 years old. until recently, we had an omega paw rolling litterbox. i thought it was the best thing ever, but i found myself having to adjust the grate a lot after months of usage.... that skeeved me out. my brother in law got one of these to test and sent it my way. i chucked the omega paw out, put a small regular clumping litter pan next to the new breeze, and set on my way. i figured the size would have deterred my cat.

my cat didn't show an affinity for it at first. i kept both boxes clean, but i did cheat and sprinkle a small amount of litter attractant over the pellets in the breeze. it makes cleanup the first few times a little messier. i also remembered to put the pellets in with the scooping litter i was using before. she still resisted.

i almost gave up after 3 weeks. i know it's longer than they recommend, but i didn't want her to feel overly compelled to use my laundry basket instead of her litterbox. finally i stopped maintaining the smaller litterbox. she would use the breeze for peeing, and the smaller one for pooping. definitely made some strides.

she wouldn't give up using the old box. it got to the point that it was downright discouraging, so on a day i knew i'd be home the whole time, i chucked the clumping litter and replaced it with breeze pellets. she got the hint and did all her business in the breeze. i read on the net about folks having problems with cats pooping out of the box, and i fortunately haven't had that issue with her. i also put in 2 sacks of pellets so she can bury it (and if she does the smell isn't too bad).

it's a great product if you have the time and the patience to transition your cat. it's definitely some work, and if your cat isn't willing to go for new litterbox situations, avoid it. if you're on the hunt for a no-track solution for a small apartment, i can attest to how great it is to only have to scoop poop and not have to deal with the over ammonia'd urine smell. you really have to help your cat transition, that's the key.
