Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Keep the oven door closed to keep heat inside, yet know the precise temperature of the food you're cooking! How is it possible? Thanks to the cable and probe which links food temperature information to the digital display, that's how. Additionally this device functions as a 24 hour timer. Set the timer or the temperature and the alarm will let you know when the food is ready. The large LCD read out is clearly visible whether you mount this to a magnetic surface or let it sit on your counter.

Amazon.com Review
This Pyrex Accessories 2-in-1 thermometer/timer allows you to measure the temperature (in Celsius or Fahrenheit) of your food as it cooks--without opening the oven door. A thin cord attaches the commercial-quality probe to a digital display screen that sits on your countertop. The true beauty of this gadget is that a timer sounds once the preset temperature of the food is reached, allowing you to read in the other room without having to continually check the temperature reading. This gadget works equally well on the stovetop, and also functions as a simple digital kitchen timer.

An adjustable display stand lets you swivel the screen to the angle of your liking, while a magnet on the back of the stand gives you the convenient option to place or store the display on your refrigerator. Too bad the ensemble doesn't have a neat contraption to store the timer and probe together; the nature of the probe makes it difficult to coil, so you end up with a cumbersome mess in the kitchen drawer. --Marcela Broussard

5 out of 5 stars Great thermometer, price wrong?   December 15, 2008
I agree that this thermometer is great. I've had it for over a year and it's still running great. I like that it runs on a regular AAA battery, instead of a special (see: expensive, hard to find) lith battery. It's taken so much of the guess work out of my cooking, especially in terms of meat!

My only warning is that I think the Amazon price must be wrong. Just like the person who bought the thermometer for $19.99 at Bed Bath and Beyond, I purchased mine for $8.99(!) at Ross.

*I don't think this is the fault of Amazon. They have always been wonderful to us in the past. Perhaps, just an oversight.

5 out of 5 stars Great thermometer but don't buy it here!   December 5, 2008
This is a great thermometer but I paid $19.99 for it at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

1 out of 5 stars My experience ...   November 28, 2008
Last October I bought this unit. I used the probe once for my 14lb turkey last year and if worked great. I paid $26 for the whole unit w/ probe.

This year, I inserted the probe and the temp immediately shot up to 199F, over the target 161F temperature. I tried reinserting the probe into the breast several times, thinking that I didn't put the probe in properly. But to no avail.

The probe doesn't wok properly. Do not pay the $99 for this. Remember, I paid $26 for the whole unit which included 4.99 for shipping. Either this is mispriced or amazon is ripping you off.

3 out of 5 stars PROBE PROBLEMS? BOIL IT IN OIL!   November 12, 2008
Heat the probe in oil at medium high until it stops making bubbles. This can be done in a frying pan with 1/4 inch of oil. I just did it and now have a working probe again. Take care as the oil is hot and there is most likely water in your probe. It took 45 minutes of internet trolling before I came up with this gem.

4 out of 5 stars Essential kitchen tool   July 4, 2008
I initially bought this thermometer at Kohl's, but there was a defect in the wire, so I returned it. When I bought it from Amazon, I remember paying a much lower price than its listed now. I love this thermometer though, great for larger cuts of meat. My only complaints are that the magnet could be stronger (mine has fallen off the refigerator several times) and its a pain to store the probe/wire. Even a small clip to hold the probe on the unit would be helpful, even if the wire were left dangling. All in all, I don't think I could cook without it!
