Amazon.com Product Description

The Alligator Lopper's wide 4-inch jaw capacity easily chews through small trunks and logs.

Because the Alligator Lopper cuts side-to-side instead of up and down, the chain won't bury itself in the ground when the cut is completed -- saving wear and tear on the cutting surface.

The Alligator Lopper's controlled, smooth cutting action makes clean-up from storms or simple pruning easy, safe, and fast.
Black & Decker's Power Saws -- Driven by Quality
Black & Decker offers both cordless and electric chain saws, including the Alligator Lopper electric chain saw and 18-volt cordless chain saws. Chain saws feature powerful motors for fast cutting and a sturdy, lightweight design that makes them exceptionally easy to use.

The Alligator Lopper Makes Cutting a Breeze
Take a big bite out of fallen trees, tree limbs and brush with the Alligator Lopper -- a revolutionary cutting tool that provides chainsaw-like cutting performance in an un-intimidating tool. With its scissor-like action, the Alligator Lopper's rugged metal jaws clamp onto logs, thick branches, tree limbs, and vines -- and then saw right through them. Once limbs and branches are on the ground, the Alligator Lopper is perfect for chopping them up into manageable pieces to throw away or chuck into your fireplace.

This amazing saw boasts a rugged 4.5 amp motor for fast, powerful chomping through wood -- plus a heavy-duty cutting bar and chain to really chew through dense branches and logs. This model also features auto chain tensioning to keep the tool in top cutting form. Just loosen the bar retainer bolts with the included wrench and the bar automatically takes out the slack and adjusts the chain's tension perfectly.

The Alligator Lopper's jaws offer the ultimate in controlled cutting. The rugged metal guards that cover the jaws protect you from the cutting chain, and they immediately snap back over the blades once the cut is complete. The Alligator Lopper's jaws also mean that there's no skipping around at the start of a cut. Unlike traditional chainsaws, the lopper cuts side-to-side instead of from top to bottom. This sideways cutting action prevents the cutting chain from burying itself in the dirt as the chain completes its cut.

The Alligator Lopper also makes it much faster and easier to cut logs, because you'll never need to prop them up on saw horses or on other any other brace. Just grab the logs in the Alligator Lopper's jaws and cut right through them.

Key Technical Specs:

  • Power: 4.5 amps
  • Bar length: 6 inches
  • Jaw capacity: 4 inches

Applications
The Alligator Lopper is ideal for tree pruning, clearing brush, storm clean-up, cutting firewood and more, and it's a great alternative to chainsaws, manual loppers, handsaws and clippers.

Warranty
This power yard product from Black & Decker is covered by the manufacturer for two years from the date of purchase. This warranty does not cover damage resulting from negligent handling, misuse or lack of reasonable maintenance and care. (Proof of purchase may be required).

5 out of 5 stars Very handy   January 6, 2009
My husband has several chain saws but is finding the Alligator Lopper to be handy when the others are not so handy. He cuts firewood to fit easier, and is clearing out brush in the pasture with more ease and less expense than the big cumbersome chain saws. He says the only drawback that he can see is the oiling factor. It has to be manually oiled, but other than that, it's pretty good. I got him the electric since we have outlets in the barn, and the battery operated one wouldn't have been available before Christmas. He has several heavy duty extension cords, so that's no problem. I also bought him 2 extra chains. He sharpens the chains himself, and with the extra ones, he can cut longer before he sharpens. We have a 14 yr old that loves the lopper and I feel that even tho he is supervised using it, it's less dangerous for him to use the Alligator when I won't let him near the other chain saws yet.

5 out of 5 stars Great Tool for yardwork   December 29, 2008
I purchased this item because I needed a few small trees and bushes cleared or pruned. My husband had various chain saws (both gas and electric) that I was hesitant to use because of the open chain and the possibility of 'kickback.' My husband is unable to do any yardwork due to back surgery. The Black and Decker Alligator Lopper was the perfect item for me. It works as advertised and I was able to trim several trees and remove a dead evergreen from our yard the same day I received the Lopper. It is light enough for females to handle and the chain is covered when cutting. I would not recommend it be used for small branches as it seemed to chew them up as opposed to a clean cut...but then that is what hand-held regular loppers are for.

5 out of 5 stars Cleaning up after the great Indiana Ice Storm of 2008   December 29, 2008
I bought this lopper to harvest some firewood from all the downed limbs from the ice storm just before Christmas. It works great. The vast majority of limbs are under 6 inches and the lopper handles them just fine. Even the limbs that tore off the tree, but were still attached came off nicely. There's no kickback, no worries of dulling the blade by digging into the ground and much less danger since the blade is pretty much enclosed by the jaws.

I used vegetable oil to keep the blade running smoothly. The blade did pop off a couple of times -- due to operator error, I'm sure, when I twisted the saw while it was cutting or cut too long without more oil (the book recommends oiling every 10 minutes). But it was simple to take apart and re-thread the blade, just two nuts to remove with the enclosed wrench. Much more simple than a full size chain saw, for sure.

5 out of 5 stars Look out hedges!   December 28, 2008
If these work as advertised, we should finally get through all the overgrown headges in a snap!

2 out of 5 stars Not as good as it looks   December 25, 2008

It looks practical in the pictures, but when you pull it out of the box it is big and bulky. Quality, I think, is kinda cheesy. I would recommend an electric chain saw instead of this.
