Amazon.com Product Description Enjoy filtered water right from your tap by installing this Pur water Pur 3-stage vertical spout-mount water purifier FM370. It attaches directly to your faucet and installs in minutes without using tools. You can easily switch from unfiltered water to filtered water by turning the faucet mount to the up position. This filter reduces dangerous cysts, such as cryptosporidium and giardia, while decreasing all sorts of impurities, such as lead, mercury, asbestos, and chlorine. The Pur water 3-stage only works with standard faucets and will not work with pull-out faucets. The built-in filter life indicator keeps track of your filter life and it automatically shuts off when filter life runs out. A filter casing, one filter, and an automatic safety monitor gauge come with this product. The purifier's filter measures 2-1/4-by-2-1/4-by-4-1/2 inches; mount measures approximately 3-by-5-by-6 inches. For consumer confidence, it is backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Cracks and leaking August 29, 2008 The Pur water filter system is very easy to install, and the filters themselves do a fine job. The filtered water definitely tastes better than straight from the tap. In December 2007 I installed one system in my family house and one in a small apartment I keep close to my job. By June 2008 the one in my family house began to leak and spray water at the faucet connection, and could not be repaired. By August 2008 the one in my apartment (which was used far, far less than the other one) had developed three cracks in the housing, causing water to spray in three directions. Judging by the other reviews, this is not unusual.
Every product has some built-in obsolescence, I guess, but this is just shoddy. Pur make great water filters. It would just be nice if they would make a quality filter system that won't fall apart after six months.
Mostly good August 19, 2008 I purchased this as a replacement for an old horizontal one (which was a replacement for an older one that was replaced under warranty when it broke).
The vertical one seems like it might work a bit better in our situation but they all suffer from water wicking into the gap between the outer color layer (chrome on ours) and the main plastic body allowing mold to grow. It should have been sealed at manufacturing time but regular cleaning with simple chlorine bleach kills any mold and doesn't hurt the water quality.
The lid is sometimes difficult to unscrew since it's smooth and often wet, we have a sticky plastic pad for opening jars that grabs and turns the lid with no problem.
Great System August 17, 2008 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
We have used the PUR Facet Mount systems for years at home and work without any difficulty. An earlier version purchased in 1982 and installed at work operates perfectly with no signs of leaks or deterioration. The unit mounts to the facet in minutes. No tools required. After cartridge installation ensure that COLD water runs through the system for 5 - 7 minutes. Never operate with hot water. A great feature of the built in filter indicator is that it will shutdown when the life of the unit is exhausted. Life span for the filters has been about 45 to 60 days. As far as replacement filters go, the best value for the money is the six pack offered by Amazon. I would highly recommend this system over others out there including the vastly overrated Brita units.
WARNING - DO NOT BUY THIS DEFECTIVE PRODUCT!!! August 15, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the 3rd or 4th Pur water filter that I've had. The first few times I tried the models without the "filter-life indicator" window. All of them eventually leaked and had to be discarded. With the model that I now own, I have had exactly the same problem as described by others here - half-way through the very first filter, it started leaking from the indicator window - at first it was a slow leak but after a few weeks turned into a spray that gets all over you. In general, these Pur filters do not last very long, and this model with the clear window definitely has a design defect - I would warn anybody to avoid purchasing this item or similar Pur faucet filters. I'm going to try a Brita filter.
Water tastes clean when you finally fill your cup August 12, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This filter looks good and makes the water taste good. The only problem is that after you use a new filter for a couple of days, the water is processed way to slow.
