Product Description More Physicians and Nutritionists are advocating greater intake of water. Some say it's best to drink at least 2-liters per day. Apart from cellular needs, it helps the flow of digestion which, in turn, helps promote nutrient disbursement and excretory regularity to help maintain balance. Unfortunately, not all drinking water is up to taste or purity standards due to ground water table issues or supply sources. That's where bottled water or filtered water are needed. The choice is up to you. If you're buying bottled water, chances are you're doing so because you prefer the taste and trust the quality of bottled over tap. You're also paying more and missing out on the simple convenience of just running the faucet for drinking water. The cost of water from a home filtration system is approximately 78% less per gallon than bottled. Over the long-term, the cost comparison between bottled and filtered can be quite significant. Once you own a home filtration system, your only expense lies in changing the disposable filter. Available at a lower cost than many bottled water sources, PUR home water filters and pitchers offer an easy, simpler way to get clean, better-tasting tap water from home. The Pur CR5000 continues the reliable tradition of water filtration pitchers with which Pur has become famous. Long-lasting, replaceable filters help remove most minerals and pollutants to deliver softer, better-tasting, and healthier drinking water. But the CR5000 adds space for yet another water device - a flavor enhancer. It adds a natural fruit flavor to the taste of the water - a sort of light essence to the taste - without adding sugar or calories. It's pure water with a little taste of flavor. When you get the CR5000, it comes with one Raspberry cartridge. Optional cartridges are available (in 2 packs): FC500P (Peach); FC500R (Raspberry); FC500S (Strawberry). Either way, you've the choice. Just flip up the flavor lid before you squirt September 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I came on Amazon knowing that people would be complaining about the flavor dispensing. Why? If you leave the flavor lid DOWN then the flavored liquid collects in the reservoir and you end up wasting a lot of flavor (it collects and solidifies). I ran into that problem early on, but the solution is extremely simple: flip up the lid of the flavor area before you squirt. Then, as you pour, squirt, and all of the flavor will go right in your glass.
This really isn't the greatest product for kids. They will undoubtedly use way more flavor than is necessary. Nor is it ideal if you have plan on having more than three people rush the fridge for water at the same time. And it is true that the flavor cartridges will not last as long as advertised if you give each glass two more or squirts. Of course, only one squirt is pretty weak compared to typical bottled water. (Then again, I'd say that the bottled stuff is too strong.)
I have to give this three stars because it was poorly engineered, for the aforementioned reason. A simpler solution would have been to skip the flavor reservoir step. You could flip up a cap to get to the button, that way you wouldn't accidentally push it and get flavor everywhere.
Anyway, once you get it working the flavor is good (raspberry and lemon, anyway, haven't tried the others), you save money, and your not lugging around cartons of bottles and dealing with extra recyclables.
Perfect So Far June 21, 2008 I've owned this pitcher for two months and I haven't had any of the problems mentioned in the other reviews. The filter lasted for 1.5 months and I love how the indicator light went from green to yellow to red so I knew exactly when to change it. The flavor cartridge also lasted about 1.5 months (using 1-2 times a day) and the flavored water is comparable to flavored bottled water. The pitcher fits perfect in our fridge and drinking a pitcher a day gives me my daily allotment of water. Also the water tastes very crisp and clean. I'm so glad I decided to purchase this particular pitcher because it works great and I no longer need to buy bulky cases of bottled water.
Great Tasting Water--and SO easy! May 19, 2008 I love my pitcher! Really easy to use, fits in the fridge. Takes the slightly off taste and odor right out of the water that comes from the tap. It does take some rinsing to get the carbon taste out of the filter, but just keep trying.
Nice pitcher design, water tastes worse than Brita February 15, 2008 The pitcher: My girlfriend has this pitcher/water filtration system at her house. I like the pitcher design; it is better than mine - I got the round Brita pitcher and it takes up too much space since it is round. A slimmer, deeper pitcher such as this fits in the fridge much better.
The Filter: As for the water filtration, my girlfriend, her roommates, and I all agree that my Brita water tastes much better than their Pur water. As to which actually filters out more impurities, I have no idea; I'm sure anyone you ask will tell you a different story. What do we buy the filter for - the taste, right? Naturally, we expect each to do the job they're designed to do and filter out any impurities; and I believe they both do this quite well. However, the final and most important test comes from our taste buds.
Summary: Brita filtered water tastes better than Pur filtered water. A slim-pitcher Brita water filtration system is the way to go.
Better than Brita but flavor is worthless January 25, 2008 Flavor is ok, but that's irrelevant. The things jam up and do not work 90% of the time! At least in the pitchers... I don't know why or how, but I've tried fixing it and went through 4 bottle and they all stop working after a few days even though they are really full. The worst part was when I called Pur to point out the negative reviews of this and especially of some of their pitchers on Amazon, such as one that nearly everyone pointed out starts leaking from the bottom. I pointed this out in a nice way to show that it's a common and known issue. Since P&G spends millions on focus groups and such, I figured they'd be happy to have information handed to them. Nope..it's not their policy to look at online reviews, and all they could do is give me a coupon for some flavor bottle and a new pitcher...which started leaking again. The water is great but only if you keep it simple and stick to a no-frills plain shaped pitcher.
