 Didn't fit my housing October 12, 2008

This filter claims to fit a standard ten inch housing but it definately didn't fit mine. I tried to use rubber gaskets, not use them, use two, etc. It just wouldn't fit and finally it buckled under the pressure because it is made of very thin-walled clear plastic so it can show off the filtering media. BTW, it says ten stages but five of those stages are identical material which is some kind of cotton/fabric/cloth stuff. Those "stages" are just to keep the other layers seperated of course they try to give fancy descriptions of those on the side of the box. Looking at the filter reminds me of those sand birds that you make when you go to the county fair. The outer shell is not only thin plastic, it's also clear plastic. Taking a wild stab at this, I'd guess that it may contain BPA since they seem to have trouble making clear plastic without this substance. Even the born free baby bottles have a slight yellowish tint to them, presumably because of this. I can't really say how it works. Perhaps it's great but I'll never know. I've wasted my money on this item. Only buy it if you already have the countertop unit that they supply. To be fair, I do have their shower filters and those seem to work pretty good and supposedly last a year which is great.

This filter is wicked expensive, but you get a lot of pros for that con. It is supposed to take out a lot of crap and how do I know? The water tastes noticeably better, though (this is Cincinnati water I'm drinking; if I was back in Portland, Maine I wouldn't bother with a filter), so it must be doing something. It's best feature for me, however, besides the filtering power - which it boasts as being top-notch - is its usability. You hook the thing up to your facet and it shoots out better tasting and supposedly healthier water about as fast as the facet itself. Yeah, and consider that one of these wallet-busting replacement filters lasts three or four times longer than their brita counterparts. Add to that this one's usability, and you've got a soundish investment.

I love my water filter. I live in Los Angeles, needless to say the city water here really needs some extra filtration. I think that this filter does the trick. I like the fact that it has the ten layers of stuff to filter all of the impuritites out, that it hooks right up to my kitchen Faucet is also a bonus. The water definitely tastes different out of the filter and if you're not a family of 4 it lasts longer than a year as well. The cost definitely beats buying the replacements filters for a pitcher all the time and I get more filtration. Also, It's always right there when I need it and there's no carrying a heavy, cumbersome pitcher from the fridge to the sink every day.

There is no certification on this or the original filter. Ten stages, twenty stages or 100 stages. I am glad that people drink more water by just using a filter good or bad. I would not reccommend this unless it gets certification.

I have been purchasing water at my supermarket and was spending more than $30 a month! After we purchased this water filter, I can tell there's little difference between the water I buy at the store and the water from this filter. I also feel confident if my daughters drink it because I know they're not getting all of the bacteria and other hurtful chemicals and minerals present in tab water!
I recommend this filter.
